Abstract:

The article aims to reconstruct a part of Bucharest from the 18th-19th centuries by means of houses existing in different areas of the city and which belonged to the small princely governors or to some characters in the prince’s suite. Our approach is important from the perspective of the fact that we can, thanks to a generous bibliographic an cartographic fund, restore part of our city’s heritage by describing some houses owned by Ioan Hagi-Mosco, Nicolae Lupănescu or a certain Gheorghe. Thus, we can learn fascinanting stories about secular, vernacular arhitecture, about the influence of foreign arhitecture, about the people who animated these houses, about their way of life, customs, culture, mentality or religion. The reconstruction of the way those houses looked like allows the reader to know how the people of Bucharest used to live, how the city on the banks of the Dâmbovița loked an developed in the 18th-19th centuries.
