Abstract:
Prezentul articol dorește să aducă în atenția publicului bucureștean, în special a generației tinere, o monumentală lucrare de artă – Marea frescă din clădirea Ateneului Român. Așa încât, cele prezentare în articol schițează contextul istoric al frescei, dar și al autorului acesteia prin evocarea momentelor însemnate din viața acestuia. Marea frescă a Ateneului Român este un martor întârziat al momentului Marii Uniri, dar și al momentului Încoronării din 1922. Costin Petrescu a realizat prin acestă frescă monumentală chintesența artei sale, dar și a Istoriei Românilor.
The aim of the present article is to bring to the young generation’s attention a very well-known artwork – the Grand historical fresco from the Athenaeum in Bucharest. The belief of this author is that each generation must revisit the art treasures of the past through their eyes and own experience. For this reason, the article tells the story of the fresco and its author, Costin Petrescu. The life story of the painter is very much linked with his creation, in such a personal manner that he decided to put his own portrait in the fresco. For this reason and because of the wonderful technique the painter used, and also because of this synthesis of the Romanian History, the Grand fresco is and will remain an important artwork, an expression of 19th century ideas in 20th century artworks.
