Abstract:

: The 18th Century was marked by various political, economic and social events. One of the most important buildings of the city of Bucharest is the Pantelimon Hospital, which was built in the first half of the 18th Century. It is located near the Colentina River, placed on a small mound, offering a breath-taking view. It was built with the purpose of treating chronical diseases. One of the most outstanding medical professionals of the illuminations century was Dimitrie Caracaș, alongside his son, Constantin Caracaș, who treated the patients of the hospital. Due to the high number of patients, Dr. Dimitrie Caracaș made the decision of asking the founder to increase the number of supplied beds, for it to be taken down in the first part of the 19th Century and replaced with new buildings where the sick could get appropriate treatments. The history of this hospital is extremely significant to the Capital, particularly as it was the second most important hospital, after Colțea. Aside from the Pantelimon hospital, in the 19th Century there was also an orphanage for poor children, and from the funds of the “fondațiunei Panteleimon” a maternity hospital was created in 1837. It is interesting to analyse all aspects relating to the state patrimony, but also its history, especially if we are to delve into our research and analyse the witness accounts of the founders.
