Abstract:

The only foundation of Michael the Brave in Bucharest was endowed from the beginning with a significant fortune to which they were added monastic settlements which made the Mihai Voda Monastery to become one of the richest places of worship in Bucharest.

The name of the Izvorani hermitage is related to the abbot Luca, known in the church history as one of the outstanding personalities of his time. Starting with him and ending with Gheorghe, each abbot showed his love for the religious place by acquiring properties. According to the custom of time, the rulers supported by various acts the hermitage of Izvorani, hoping that the monastery will take care of their souls, the souls of their ancestors, and their descendants. The disasters caused by the earthquake during Constantin Șerban Basarab’s reign, as well as their age, forced the grandchildren’s abbot in 1693 to dedicate the Izvorani hermitage to Mihai Voda Monastery.
